We are delighted to announce the non-profit organization, Fashion Benefiting Youth Artists, as a client. FBYA is a non-profit organization that provides mentorship and scholarship to young artists. They are really putting young people to work with un-traditional internships like, Fashion Editor and Student Journalist. Their interns will be producing a monthly "Lookbook" and of course we will present it here! Everything they produce has a fashion related focus. Be on the look out for their upcoming events. Monday PR Flash! Charleston Fashion Week

All I can ask is, "What happened to Fashion at The Park?" D town's version of the tents at Bryant Park. It was around for a few beautiful years and this past fall when I was anticipating snabbing a front row, nadda! No seat to be had! There are various metropolis's creating their own fashion week to brand their city as a fashion beacon. The city that I am most impressed with is Charleston.
The Charleston Fashion week is well organized, highly publicized and anticipated! Participation is growing and even their model search garnered over 700 entries! Wow! That is the direction Dallas needs to be headed. Everyone in town talks about how Dallas is a southern Fashion Mecca but are we really? I mean, how is that translating to the national fashion movement? It is not apparent that we are serious about presenting an innovative fashion week that garners the participation of emerging designers or peaks the interest of established ones either. At least not for the long haul.
I went to two previous Fashion at the Park fashion shows "in the tents" and it was awesome. DJ Lucy Wrubel was doing her thang perched in a DJ booth, all in black interns were everywhere, show goers were dressed to the nines and the energy was sick! I can not believe that it was so short lived! Well, a new crop of chicsters will be producing a Dallas Fashion Week come Fall 2010. Industry Creative PR will be of course behind the scenes. Young artists get your creations together and submit your portfolio to the Main Street Arts Festival that occurs every year in Fort Worth. It is the best art festival around! It will be April 8-11, 2010. BUT the deadline to apply is this Friday, October, 23. Application is $30! Monday PR Flash! Christian Siriano coming to Dallas, "What?"

The most gawked, admired, intriguing, and in my opinion, most talented to date, Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, is coming to Dallas! He will be strolling through this week to showcase his Spring 2010 collection at the Two By Two for Aids and Art event benefiting, AMFAR, this Thursday, October, 22! In addition, he will be causing I am sure, a raucous stir among the heel clad set, myself included, at Forty Five Ten where he be present for a trunk show of his Spring 2010 collection, this Friday and Saturday, October 23 and October 24, from 12p to 4p. Sweeeeet!

Yesterday I popped into Borders in West Village by my house in Uptown and while browsing the magazines, a sad realization came over me- almost all of my favorite magazines are no longer available due to the recession. The last issue of Cookie Magazine came out this month, Domino’s last issue was earlier this year, and Jane magazine ceased in 2007.

While I was there, I came across the new Teen Vogue Handbook, which just hit bookshelves this week. I felt it was ironic, in the most heart-wrenching way, to buy a book about breaking into the magazine industry days after several hundred people were let go from their jobs in the same business.
The Teen Vogue Handbook gives some excellent insight on how to break into the fashion world and the various talents that are needed in the industry. And although the book is a great start I think there is a lesson here: you can have all the skills and talent in design or logistics but if no one knows you exist then how can you have a clientele?
This made me feel all the more ready to launch Industry Creative PR’s growth project. You really have to wonder if maybe Cookie or Domino had had the right PR agency working in their interest, maybe they would have survived?

Love What You Do!

When I was a child I would watch in admiration everyday as my Father headed off to run his boutique. There was an austere there, an appeal. I would spend Saturday's with him and his day was never really planned, unless he knew of clients that were coming in for personal styling ahead of time. The day was his, his day was not predetermined by strict confines. That level of ambiguity intrigued me. Granted, I loved to play with the supplies my Mother would bring home from her position as an Executive at the Insurance firms that employed her, but I never had the quench to say, that is what I want to do. Clock-in, clock-out, and just be a warm soul in a soulless building for the rest of my life. Being a business owner, especially a business owner with a creative business, takes stamina, confidence, and a wing and a prayer. Those of us that do make the leap feel that there is something greater to gain for our own professional development versus being a cog in the machine. I recently was chatting with Pam Scrima, the boutique owner of, Parkerhawn Vintage and she shared her "moment" of when she decided to leave corporate America and do her own thing. She was an Analyst for the retailer, New York and Co., and during a meeting with other company executives, there was some serious quarreling amongst the staff over as she states, "a shade of green", for the color story for the next season. She thought, life is too short to be all in a "tizzy" over a shade of green. So, the said to herself that day, I am taking my love affair with vintage and marrying it with my business background. Five years later, Parkerhawn Vintage, is a force in the industry and go to source for stylists and lovers of vintage. I totally understand where Pam is coming from, life is short. Do what you love and make a living!
